Compliance assured with Premdor.

Premdor can confirm that we have taken the appropriate steps in order to ascertain that illegally harvested timber and timber products derived from such materials are not placed on the internal market from March 3rd 2013 onwards.

The following information and steps have been taken by Premdor for all EU and Non EU timber suppliers:

1. A written statement that the supplied timber does not originate from controversial sources.
2. Details of the country & district of timber origin.
3. Due diligence has been applied and the risk assessed.

Therefore Premdor can confirm that all the timber we purchase and the products we sell, comply with the new regulation from 3rd March 2013.

Written procedures within our I.S.O.14001, 9001 - 2008, FSC & PEFC management systems have been changed to reflect the EUTR requirements and will be audited by our auditors, during their twice yearly surveillance visits.

With over 10,000 reported deaths and injuries as a result of Building fires every year, it is imperative that Fire doors manufactured are fit for purpose and hung in an appropriate frame with attendant intumescent strips and have a controlled closing action.

Everyone that uses or occupies a building has a right to expect they will be safely protected should a fire break out. Unfortunately this is not always the case. Fire doors are part of a building’s passive fire protection system, an essential requirement for all public buildings, offices and factories.

Fire doors are also a requirement in certain domestic situations, such as
• Entrance doors to flats
• In a dwelling that has an added habitable loft conversion.
• Where a door leads directly to a garage.
Fire doors are designed therefore to provide a safe escape route, also protecting contents as well as containment of the actual fire and additionally controlling smoke contamination and heat radiation.

However, with a decision/supply chain that will typically involve:
• Architect/Specifiers
• Builders and Developers
• Merchants and Distributors
• Installers and Fitters
• Building Control/Inspectors

It is perhaps almost inevitable that cost considerations, inaccurate advice, incompatible components or poor workmanship along the line of supply, may lead to a fire door that will ultimately not perform its vital safety function.

Additionally whilst all manufacturers will provide reassurances that their products will comply with all regulations, it is implicit in the Regulatory Reform Order (RRO) which affects exhaustive fire safety provision in many premises and property types, that it is not acceptable to accept simple assurances of product specification.

Doors that are compliant with relevant British or European Standards and have achieved independent third party certification through the BWF/CERTIFIRE Fire door and Doorset Scheme are able to meet the criteria contained within the RRO Fire Safety Regulations.

Membership criteria is based upon independent evaluation of product design and test evidence, including size variations, hanging arrangement options , added glazed panels and the hardware or components fitted to them.

A new fully adjustable doorset complete with pre hung doors from Premdor.

A Builder doesn’t need twice telling time is money - and saving the former normally produces more of the latter! It naturally follows therefore that any Building Product that can save valuable time without compromising the job, is worthy of a closer look.

In recent years massive changes have taken place to the timescales of Building programmes with ever shortening leadtimes requiring increasingly innovative building techniques and materials - push and twist plumbing systems, I Beams, nail guns, sprayable plaster and and rainwater harvesting, just for starters.

Now, a new fully adjustable doorset complete with pre hung doors from the Premdor range, has been launched by the company. A quick examination of the system will reveal a host of benefits and time saving advantages, perfect for the builder or property developer.

The system allows for rapid installation by a lower skilled worker due to the key components being factory fitted. Branded SPEEDSET PLUS the system can be delivered direct to site in plot lots and importantly fitted late in the Building Programme.

Whilst quick and easy to fit in a new build programme, Speedset Plus is ideal in the RMI market where irregular walls might frequently be encountered.

The system can quickly and easily be adjusted by +/- 10mm to take up variation in wall thickness.

This exciting system can be prehung with most of the door options shown in the Premdor range guide (www.premdor.co.uk) including FD30 fire doors. All doors are factory pre hung on CE marked adjustable chrome, brass or white hinges. After installation the door to stop gap can be adjusted if necessary.

All fixing brackets and fixing screws are supplied and are hidden by the architrave. The finishing touches to the system are architraves which are unassembled but cut to length and pre-mitred, yet again saving time and the cost of a skilled craftsman. Architraves are fitted using a nail substitute grab adhesive and are available in
Contemporary, Ogee or Torus profiles.

Premdor’s extensive range of products are available to supply customers with either FSC or PEFC, which offers assurance that an independently audited route to market is being followed. The process includes annotation of certifiction on all associated documentation. This process in particular guarantees that sustainable wood sources are being used.

WoodTone

The WoodTone range of interior foil finish doors offers clean lines and a modern real wood appearance. The door faces are fully finished, durable and easy to clean. An advantage to the foil finish is that the doors are consistent in colour and shade, with easily matched, non fade faces to coordinate with flooring and furnishings. The range is available in oak, ash and beech finish and complimented by FD30 fire door and glazed options.


Wessex

The handsome Wessex range is supplied fully lacquer finished, enhancing the deep grain features of the natural oak appearance. The closure announcement follows a full process of review and consultation involving the Company’s Senior Management, workforce, employee representatives that started in early October 2007.

CRASH aims to help homelessness charities to improve their premises, facilities and accommodation provided for homeless people. CRASH brings together the expertise and help of professionals and companies from the UK construction and property industries to assist homelessness projects to reduce construction costs.

Premdor regards CRASH as an important charity to be associated with and have built up a relationship over the last few years.

The ’No Christmas Card Campaign’ in 2007 has so far raised over £89,000 for the homelessness charities. Premdor is proud to have supported this worthy campaign.

The House of Genesis in Norwich asked for CRASH’s assistance to provide and install fire doors and an integrated fire alarm system for a five bedroom terrace house they purchased. This would mean the house would meet the ’House in Multiple Occupation, regulations. The house is a home for ex-homeless men and the development would ensure they lived in a much safer environment with better resources.

The Alpha Design 24 range is now available with a clear engineered timber option, which offers an even higher specification window alternative.

The 100% clear timber is supplied with a base coat honey finish, which allows for final finishing on site in either a stain or paint, with minimal site preparation, and provides an impressive high quality appearance.

The absence of large knots or other defective aspects stabilizes movement and eliminates factors such as resin bleed which can damage decorative coats, and accordingly reduce maintenance costs and frequency.

All engineered Timber used in the Alpha 24 range is supplied with full FSC accreditation, which ensures that the raw material is sourced from well managed and sustainable sources.

The use of selected laminated and finger jointed material enhances component strength and stability, without the need to increase the sectional dimensions of the components. It is also a key feature in meeting the intruder resistance requirements of the British Standards and Secured By Design criteria. Typically if the window is attacked the components will resist against the intrusion, but if split or damaged then the damage will be limited to a localised area.

New for October 2006 is the Provence 24 sliding terrace doorset. This new range features a high performance running track system, allowing the doors to be fully retracted. The incline design is pleasing to the eye with a choice of full height or panelled designs. This new range is available in two size options, with a choice of internal or external openings, to suit a variety of applications.

Premdor have introduced a clear engineered timber option to the already established Design 24 window range. This offers an even higher specification window alternative which provides a knot free appearance. These windows can be finished in clear or light stain to create an impressive high quality appearance.
