Delivering Best Practice
In any average week Premdor will be delivering around 80k product units to sites and merchant yards throughout the UK.
Against this not inconsiderable logistical challenge the business has introduced a range of environmentally linked initiatives. These are constantly monitoring and measuring our vehicles and driver performance, while at the same time maintaining the targeted customer service level.
Some of these initiatives are:
- Continually evaluating all routing to reduce mileage and associated fuel usage and emissions.
- All drivers are continually assessed and monitored against the company measured average MPG. Follow up discussion and training is then implemented for non conforming drivers.
- Regular driver training sessions are undertaken, specifically aimed at increasing fuel efficiency.
In addition a fleet replacement programme is evolving through 2007 to roll out vehicles having Euro 4 category performance meeting the highest standards of fuel efficiency and lowest CO2 emissions.
The use of road transport remains a growing environmental concern.
Like all manufacturing businesses the alternative options are, at least for the foreseeable future, not practical, but Premdor will continue to identify any process or procedure that carries a reduced adverse environmental impact.
